γ-Butyrolactone can be produced by the dehydrocyclization of 1,4-Butanediol in the liquid (at 200 ℃) or gas (at 250 ℃) phase in the presence of a catalyst. The laboratory method for the synthesis of γ-butyrolactone is the oxidation of tetrahydrofuran with sodium bromate; in microquantities, thermal dehydration of γ-oxybutyric acid. |
